We believe the Gulf region is uniquely positioned to lead natural hydrogen exploration, thanks to favourable geological structures, strong policy support and strategic location as a global energy hub.

Favourable Geology: The Gulf countries hosts some of the world’s largest ophiolite formations, rich in ultramafic rocks that naturally generate hydrogen through serpentinization.

Government Hydrogen Strategy: The Gulf countries are committed to clean hydrogen. Oman for example aims to become a global hydrogen hub by 2050, with strong policy backing for exploration and investment. The country aims to produce at least 1 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually by 2030, scaling up to 3.75 million tonnes by 2040 and reaching 8.5 million tonnes by 2050.

Export Infrastructure: Established energy transport networks position the Gulf as an ideal launchpad for hydrogen exports to Europe and Asia.

Existing Hydrogen Discoveries: Surface hydrogen seeps across the Gulf region confirm the presence of active natural hydrogen systems, making it a high-priority exploration target.

Gulf Hydrogen sees great potential to discover commercial quantities of natural hydrogen in the Gulf countries, and to subsequently develop these into long term production facilities and market the produced hydrogen domestically and internationally.

The company fully recognizes that to be successful it will be key to integrate local strategic and technical expertise. It looks forward to work with local suppliers and partners.

We are currently conducting geoscience studies to identify the most promising areas within the Gulf for natural hydrogen exploration. The rigorous assessment focusses on different hydrogen generation mechanisms, including through serpentinization, radiolysis, and deep mantle sourcing.
